Speaking of Playoffs

All I have to say is that the Cowboys could have played there way into the playoffs, but the home of the new soap opera "Dallas, the football years"  has done it again.  They are currently getting blasted by Philly who might have just got themselves into the playoffs.  Go Andy Reid!

Playoff football

I am a serious collage football fan and a die hard Seahawks fan.  Those of you who do not know me, will learn this very quickly.  However, I believe the one thing that the NFL has over the FCS division of collage football is the playoff system.  I hear the detractors of a collage playoff say that it will take meaning away from a regular season.
I very much disagree.  Look at today's regular season games, much of which were and are win and go on, lose and go home.  New England may have played there way into the playoffs, or not, Miami and NY Jets play tonight and if Miami wins, they will be 11-5 along with New England.  Miami beat them twice, so the Dolphins (with BYU QB John Beck holding a clipboard) will go into the playoffs as division winner and New England will be praying that Baltimore loses because they too own the tie breaker against the Patriots.  The great thing is, if the Ravens do win, New England will be 11-5 and watching the playoffs from home!  That would be great because the only other team to do that in the last 25 years was the '85 Broncos.  Two teams that I just love to hate (along with the Rams).
Going back to my original point though, NCAA football's regular season would indeed benefit from a playoff.  Look at this year alone, there are many teams that could be considered for a National Championship.  Look at the farce that happened to Texas.  They could have been in the same position that Oklahoma is now.  Texas Tech for that matter, could and should be talked about in that same sentence, all of which are one loss teams.  In fact, we have two one loss teams playing for the Title.  And two undefeated teams on the outside looking in, with one very good 2 loss team that should also be talked about.
Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Alabama and USC all have one loss on the season.  Utah and Boise State are undefeated, yet have played "softer" schedules (which I disagree with, this year for Utah at least).  Also, TCU has two losses, both of which came from BSC Bowl game bound team.  They lost to Oklahoma, holding them to 35 points, which is there lowest output of the year.  There other loss could have been a win if the wind was blowing a little further easterly.  The lost to Utah by three points and could have (some say should have) won the game if their kicker had but hit one of his two missed field goals that bounced off the uprights.
If we talk about an eight team playoff, which is most likely (but not before I'm 90), we still leave one outside screaming "they left me out."  This year would more than likely be TCU, and Boise State and Utah would join the "BCS" teams in the playoff system.  TCU actually beat Boise State earlier this week in the Poinsietta Bowl.  It was a tough fought game that both defenses proved that they were not over rated.  So, TCU would have an a legitiment grip.  However, in a playoff system, someone does get left out.  So, #1 Oklahoma vs. #8 Boise State (I've seen that before), #2 Florida vs. #7 Texas Tech, #3 Texas vs. #6 Utah and #4 Alabama vs. #5 USC.  Talk about a first round!!!
The winners (picked by me) would be #1 OU, #2 Florida, #6 Utah (I'm picking these, so back off!), #5 USC.  So that would set up some interesting match-ups.  #1 Oklahoma vs. #5 USC and #2 Florida vs. #6 Utah (good story line there).  Than, with Florida beating Utah (I'm not that dilusional) and USC beating Oklahoma (it would be interesting to see what that offense could do against a real defense) it would set up the right National Championship Game.  USC and Florida.  I am not going to make my pick because it would just be a great game.  In fact, all those would be great games!  So here's hoping for the future!  Speaking of the future, Boise State needs to join the Mountain West already!!!
